As we all know there were a lot of teams still alive heading into the final week of competition. I had a hectic week with family issues, CYO commitments and work, so I neglected to post your updates. Here goes:

Oakland took 3 of 4 from Texas to move into a tie for the AL West lead. Tim Hudson (5-3, 3.19) was brilliant in a 2-1 victory in 8 innings of action. Izzy notched his 12th save. None of the other 3 games were close. Jason Giambi (.320) and Eric Chavez (.325) were the hitting stars for Oakland this season. Chavez hit his 10th homer of the season in the finale. Julio Franco hit .349 for Texas.
After dropping the series open 10-9 to the M's the Halos rebounded nicely to win the next 3 to move into a 3 way tie for 1st place in the AL West with MIN and OAK. Seattle's once promising season came to a screeching halt as the club limped down the stretch. A-Rod hit his 10th homer in the series and finished with a nice .305 average. Griffey Jr. finished with a .288 average and 11 homers. Both stars posted 29 RBI's. The Halos did it with smoke and mirrors with just 2 regulars hitting over .300 (Rick Miller and Don Baylor) and Nolan Ryan going 3-4 (2.88).
The 1969 Minnesota Twins, 1979 California Angels and the 2001 Oakland A's all finished dead even at 20-18 atop the AL West. A play in game scenario would follow where those 3 teams and the 1955 Cleveland Indians would compete for the final 2 playoff slots.
